An owner review of the Yaesu FT817ND
by Carl Beamish // #MW6GHY

The ubiquitous Yaesu FT817ND, now discontinued as a production model. It will never be a desktop diva, instead it is a QRP workhorse. Capable, solid and light weight. The menu system is easy to understand once you have read the manual. Not the most crisp sounding microphone or speaker but again they do their job well.

This rig has been around for a long time. The community have created some wonderful videos and guides on how to get the best out of this rig. After market accessories are available, including filters and battery upgrades. Even with these accessories the 817 will always be a QRP transceiver. It’s lack of features is part of its charm. ”
